    Update from Gabrielle

Yay, late Friday we were transferred from Starship to Whangārei as Flynn was recovering better than expected.

He spent the weekend under observation and has had many services connected for his on-going rehabilitation Monday and Tuesday this week.

Going forward he will have a long recovery gaining full use and feeling back in his hand and arm as at this stage he has no feeling or sensation.

Today we are lucky to say he has been discharged from hospital. Although a little unsettling, it is a positive step towards his recovery and we are so happy he is alive and slowly recovering.

What a journey this past couple of weeks have been and we cannot even begin to express the gratitude we feel for all the support shown so far!

A big mihi to everyone on the journey with us. Mīharo whānau!

    Ngā mihi nui,

    The Paynes.

    Update straight from Gabrielle below

Kia ora koutou, thanks so much for everyone's support we are feeling all the aroha and manaaki down here! Flynn has been moved to the Paedeatric surgical ward as he awaits his fourth and final sugery - a skin graft to both wound sites. We should hear an update soon about when we can be transferred back to Whangārei hospital soon! Flynn can move his fingers but doesn't have any feeling or sensation in them. He will have a team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other help to support the use of his hand and arm again which will be planned at a later date if he doesn't regain fine motor control. He is in good spirits and apart from frustration and learning to manage pain, is learning to use his left hand amazingly! He can build lego and even write his name and really enjoys crafting! Thanks again for everyone's awhi, tautoko and aroha! We appreciate you all!

    Love from the Payne's ❤️🫶

Hey everyone, thank you so much to every one of you that has donated, we appreciate you all so much. It’s looking like Flynn will be in hospital for another 2-4 weeks.

He’s awake but will remain in ICU until at least Friday.

He has blood flowing through his arm and can move 3 fingers so far!! We are so relieved.

He also has another surgery in the next couple days which will be a skin graft.

Little Flynn woke up today saying “mum I’m hungry” - we are all so happy and grateful he’s alive and back to himself!!!!
