Yesterday I had my CT scan, which will be sent to the US to be used to make my new jaw joints from.

My specalist attended the scan with me to ensure my jaw was in the right position so the joints are made to fit correctly.

It takes 4 months for the joints to be made and arrive here in NZ so we are looking at late March for them to arrive and he said that means surgery in APRIL! So excited for this as last time we talked we were looking at June/July for surgery!

This morning I have had a wee surgery on my jaw... my scans weren't showing enough deterioration for insurance to approve the joint replacement surgery so my surgeon decided to go in and check it out as I have all the symptoms..

    HE FOUND IT!!!

He found everything we need! He said it's so bad in there! I'm crying with relief. I thought I was going crazy with my symptoms not matching the scans!!! Perforations in both disc's and so much scar tissue. It's such a relief! Holy moly.

Thanks so much everyone for your support! We have $5500 till we are at our goal but we are now able to put in the claim with insurance and find a surgery date (looking at next year some time as he's so booked out!) 🤞 he has a cancelation sooner rather than later!

  • Update from Hayley

      20 September 2021

I had my CT scan a week and a half ago but still haven't heard how it all was, so will contact the specalist rooms tomorrow to chase it all up.

The new medication they had me on was stopped after 11 days. The side effects were horrendous, plus I gained 5kg in 11 days 😱 so on top of already feeling so gross with my jaw and the pain I was feeling horrible with none of my clothes fitting and being so self conscious. They have upped my other medication which has now taken over that side effect and my weight is still climbing. So this is something I will be discussing with the specalist tomorrow too.

The pain has increased and in the last couple of weeks I am having more bad days than good. But I keep on keeping on.

We are slowly creeping towards our target goal. We couldn't do this without each and every one of you. We are so humbled and grateful for everyone that is helping us. This surgery wouldn't be even close to happening if it wasn't for all of you!

So thank you from the bottom of my heart!

    Love Hayley 💜

  • Update from Hayley

      18 August 2021

I haven't got to much to update at the moment as we are in a bit of a limbo waiting...

I put all my paperwork in to insurance for prior approval, after nearly two weeks of waiting to hear from them they came back needing more information from my specalist. I made contact with him and we are now two weeks into waiting for that information to be sent. (Maybe now we are in lockdown he might have a chance to get it done).

My jaw is now riddled with arthritis (one of the reasons ACC won't take it on) and the disc's are deteriorating quickly.

Every time I open my mouth I can hear horrendous noises coming from my jaw.

The pain is horrible and the daily headaches suck and also make me a bit of a moody cow to live with... sorry babe!

But each new day is one day closer to getting this surgery and that to me is a WIN!

Again we want to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you. We don't currently have any more fundraisers lined up, but for now I'll continue grinding away at both my jobs (after lockdown that is) and chipping away at our target. 💜

    Much love

    Hayley and Jamie

  • Jaw update

      22 July 2021

    Some words from Hayley

Yesterday I saw my specalist. He sedated me and did a wash out in my joints on each side, then added a steroid into them and the muscles that are seizing around my face.

My jaw has got worse in the few weeks since I last saw him.

He said getting 6 months out of this procedure is going to be a push, and he thinks its more likely going to be 3 months!

So pressure is on to save quicker and get things moving with insurance so we can try and lock in a surgery date.

Again thank you so so much to everyone for your support. Your kind words, sharing our posts, donating to the give a little page, purchasing raffle tickets and purchasing the things we are selling. We wouldn't be able to reach this goal without you and we cannot put into words how much it means to us.

    Lots of love

    Hayley and Jamie 💜💚
