Please help Jasper be pain free

  • Going well

      29 December 2019

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay in letting you know how Jasper went with his surgery.

He came through the surgery well although very groggy. He had all his teeth removed and was neutered at the same time. When I collected him he appeared so pleased to see me and the car...he hasn't been enjoying his post-op checks!

Since his teeth have been removed Jasper is doing extremely well. His right ear is still slightly infected but we look to be getting on top of it. His energy levels are increasing and he is starting play more. Best of all he no longer appears in any pain!

I will try to get an updated photo to show how much better he is looking.

Thank you all so much for helping Jasper. I don't even have the words to express how much this means. You guys honestly helped save his life.

  • Time for surgery

      9 December 2019

Hi everyone. Jasper went in for a check up last week and got some bloods taken. We got some great news that the infection in his left ear had cleared up and that his liver and kidney function were normal. Unfortunately he was still anemic so the vets wanted to hold off his surgery for a month to give him time to improve his red blood cell count.

Over the weekend though I noticed that Jasper was not eating as much and his gums were looking very red. After a visit to the vet this morning he is back on antibiotics and his surgery is scheduled for this Friday. There is some risk due to his anaemia but the vet feels his dental problems are a greater risk. Over the weekend he had also started to lose weight, something he can't afford.

Thank you all again for the compassion and generosity you shown Jasper. I'll let you all know how his surgery goes over the weekend.

Jasper is blossoming as a house cat. He has started to play more and in the last two days has started climbing onto my lap for pats. You'll notice by the photo that he is still quite scruffy...so far we have agreed on brushing and dry shampoo. Negotiation are ongoing for a proper bath!

Jasper went in for his ten day check up today. Overall he is doing a lot better. He has put on 400 grams, bringing his weight up to 3.8kgs which is fantastic. His ear infections have improved a lot but the vet would like him to continue with his ear drops for another week and then get reassessed again. They also want to do some bloods next week as his kidneys are a bit enlarged. He is going back to the vet on Monday 2nd Dec.

  • Jasper's Progress

      21 November 2019

Hi everyone. Jasper is doing really well. He has developed a big appetite and although he hasn't been weighed again, he looks to have put on weight. With his pain under control Jasper is now back to grooming himself although he is still going to need a bath at some point (neither one of us are looking forward to that!). His energy levels are up and he has even started to show interest in playing with wand toys. I'll aim to get some updated photos of Jasper this weekend.

Jasper is heading back to the vet on the 25th Nov to be reassessed and to check on his ear infections.

Thank you all for your kindness and compassion. Jasper is a lucky boy to have you all supporting him to get better.

He went back to the vets this morning to get some more fluids as he is not drinking enough yet and needed some stronger pain meds to help with his mouth. He has a good appetite (wet food only) and has developed a taste for fancy feast purée kisses (great way to have his meds!). His kidneys are a bit enlarged but the vets said that once Jasper is more stable they will be able to tell more as this may be a result of his extreme dehydration. Overall he is doing better and is showing more of his personality. Jasper adores his head rubs and will even roll on his back while purring like a freight train.
