Frankie is shaving her head to support Mr Joe.
Bay of Plenty
I was lucky enough to have Mr Joe teach me for 2 full years when I was at primary school, and he had a profound impact on me (apart from when he dashed my dreams of becoming a storm trooper when I grew up) and was definitely one of my favourite teachers.
In January 2021, Mr Joe was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukaemia. He was immediately rushed to Waikato Hospital for treatment, and his and his family’s lives turned upside down.
Mr Joe was always super active, out-going and a very helpful and generous person to all who needed him to be.
Now it’s my turn to help Mr Joe!
The drug he requires to beat this leukaemia is unfunded in NZ, and will cost him/his family an estimated $19k per treatment. Mr Joe could be looking at 3-4 treatments.
I would like to help contribute any funds raised by shaving my hair (all 40cm of it!) on the 31st March. Since my hair is ever growing, in the scheme of things I would definitely rather live without it than the people I respect.
Hopefully we can help ease some of the financial burden and soften the blow.
My cut hair will be donated to Freedom Wigs NZ, who in turn will donate to SHAVE FOR A CURE on my behalf.
I will be so appreciative of any support you can give! The Joe family even more so. Thank you very much.
Mr Joe was my daughter’s favourite teacher in primary school, and had a huge impact on her. He is one of the most enthusiastic and positive, fit and fine role models a young person could ask for.
Any financial support will make a difference. These funds will be helping pay for the treatment of the drug Midostaurin (Rydapt) which is unfunded on NZ.
Thanks for your donations so far! 22 March 2021
People have been incredible with their support for Mr Joe, and we are so grateful to everyone who’s helped Frankie get to nearly $6k in donations.
With a little over a week left, Frankie would love to reach her new goal of $6000 for Mr Joe.
If you have been planning on donating before the big shave on 31 March, it would be fantastic to receive.
Many thanks everyone.
Love Lee, & Frankie (who brought two warm beanies today, in preparation of a cold head!)
