Hi All. Run down of what's been happening a year after being diagnosed with Bowel cancer. First 8 months of chemo finished with a break in mid February. During the first couple of months, Linda and I took a bike round the south island. Had a ball catching up with family and friends down there. The trip was great with top weather and riding.

The Last two months have been spent trying to get fit and healthy before returning to treatment. This has involved a lot of great bush walks and some weight training.

Chemo started again last Tuesday (fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin and cetuximab). am hopeful for another good result from this. Oxaliplatin was the hard one last time but did the trick. Cetuximab is the new targeted immunotherapy. This comes with more side affects but hope its not too bad.

Thanks every one for your support. I'm lucky to be in the long game with this at Waikato DHB, from Nick

  • Cycle 9!

Nick just had his 9th round of chemo. His latest CT scan showed a reduction in both tumour size and number. He continues to do as much exercise as he can, as directed by his oncologist. We are still enjoying lots of bush walks too. This fortnightly chemo will continue through to the start of next year and will be re-evaluated then. He had one less drug this round and is tolerating the side effects better, although he now said he looks like the real smiley faced emoji lol.

While we are very thankful, and very fortunate to have got Nick in to private care, after spending over $30 thousand, we are very pleased today to be in the public health system now. Thank you again for all your very kind donations and help towards this huge cost, most appreciated. Nick is tolerating the chemo well so far and we are having a CT scan next week to see how things are going. If needed later, Nick is eligible for targeted chemo which is not yet funded, so please keep sharing the word about donations to help with this and regular living costs while he is not working. Thank you again for all your positivity and kind words, Linda and Nick.

  • 3rd round of chemo for Nick

We're just home from Nick's 3rd round of chemo. Already he has noticed some symptoms, runny nose, change in tastes, sore jaw, sensitivity to the cold, mild tingly fingers to name a few. Mostly though, he tolerates the chemo well and we hope it is doing what it is supposed to be doing on the inside! Thank you again for your continued support and good wishes.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and donations so far, it is helping Nick continue to seek the treatment he needs and cope with daily living costs while not working. We saw the oncologist today and Nick's testing showed he is able to have targeted chemotherapy drugs added to his regimen after a couple more cycles. The drugs are currently not funded, but hopefully they will be later in the year. We have been keeping up the exercise as our oncologist requested and enjoying some bush walks. If possible, can you please share Nick's page around as every little bit really does help.

Nick has finished his first cycle of chemo and tolerated it well. We had great fun this morning opening a box of warm winter hats from Simply Wigs/Hat Tricks, these will definitely help as Nick does feel the cold.
