Please help our daughter get the Neurosurgery she needs

  • Nearly Two Weeks On

      27 August 2023

Alicia is doing really well with her recovery. She is gaining strength each day. It is amazing seeing how far she has come in nearly two weeks. From those early days where she struggled to sleep as her pain was so immense and no position was comfortable no matter the amount of drugs she was taking to try and dull it. She struggled to chew and swallow, and walking and talking took so much effort and thought. We are grateful that those days are starting to be behind us. She still has pain in her wound site, still fatigued and relying on medication to help her each day. She physically looks a lot better but still the day to day tasks can be a challenge.

She still has a lot of swelling in her wound site so is experiencing a few headaches from time to time. As the swelling goes down over the next two months we will see how successful her surgery was. We are praying and hoping that it was extremely successful.

She is such a tough kid and has had to bear so much pain in the past and her threshold is so high that it is hard for her to work out what a normal level of pain should be. She is really good at covering up pain as it was her way of life and she was determined to not let it beat her. Hoping that over the next two and a half months of recovery that she start to gain a new normal pain threshold. Alicia blows me away with her determination and attitude and we feel privileged to be her parents, walking this journey with her. THANKS for helping her get on this road to recovery

  • Surgeon’s Comments and Today’s state

      17 August 2023

The surgeon said that when he did the operation he could see physically the tonsils (lower brain) expand into it’s new space and their were nerves that were squashed have now moved without restriction. Such positive news.

Tough couple of days and supposed to be another one tomorrow according to the surgeon. She has had a lot of pain struggling to get comfortable and rest. They have finally managed to get the right mix of drugs and she is starting to become more relaxed sleeping most of the afternoon. She went for an unaided walk at lunchtime and needs to go for another one at 4:30.

She is such a strong girl who is trying so hard to push strong through this pain. We are so proud of her.

  • The hard start of recovery

      16 August 2023

Last night and today has been pretty tough for Alicia on her road to recovery. Her head is pounding at the back of her neck from ear to ear. Tomorrow is known to be the next level up with pain. Hope that her pain will ease. She managed to stand up this morning unaided and has taken a few steps before lunch using an aide. These small steps in her recovery are such huge achievements. We are so proud of her courage and positive mindset. Love this kid so much

  • Alicia had her surgery today

The surgery day finally arrived. Alicia has been amazing and has had so much peace about it all. It shows how much pain she has been living with. She was so relaxed that the anesthetist was amazed with her going so calmly off to sleep. It is always hard waiting for the phone call but we sighed with relief when it came earlier than expected. The surgeon said the operation went splendidly. Alicia started off showing her bubbly personality as she was lying in her bed in ICU. She had a good afternoon with bouts of pain but not in the area pre op which made her so grateful. Tonight she is in a lot of pain around the back of her neck from one ear to the other. This is making it hard for her to sleep. It is supposed to last for the next couple of days as her muscle was cut during her surgery. We thank God for your generosity that enabled this surgery to take place. Please pray for comfort as she heals and that no infection or clot will form. It is so nice to now be on this side of the surgery. I will keep you updated on her progress as the weeks unfold. Thanks everyone

  • WE ARE BEYOND GRATEFUL

      16 July 2023

Thank you to all of you who made what we thought was an unreachable goal possible in just over two days!!! It is truly overwhelming to see the generosity that people have given us. We feel blessed to live in an amazing community and have such supportive friends and family members. We know that some of you don't even know us and have also opened up your hearts and supported us financially. It truly overwhelms us. We are grateful that we have hope to see an end to this pain that Alicia has been experiencing. I am going to ring the surgeon tomorrow and try to book in her surgery. I never thought I would be doing that this early! We know the road ahead is going to be a tough one but grateful that we have a powerful God who will help guide us through it and amazing community around us and wonderful family and friends. Thank you beyond words!
