Please Help us Start a Family

At 44 years of age, I’m fast losing hope of being able to start a family of our own so I’ve started this page to see if I can raise the money to be able to have one last go at IVF, with the help of an egg donor.

My husband, Kevin, and I are currently wonderful parents to our two SPCA rescue kittens and know we’d be great parents to a child! When I was 39, we became pregnant naturally and it was then that we realised just how much we really wanted to add a human baby to our fur family. At the seven-week scan, there was a strong heartbeat so we assumed everything would be fine. There was only a 5% chance of losing the baby. Unfortunately, we were in that 5% and two weeks later we lost the baby. I’d just turned 40 so if we wanted medical help to get pregnant again, we wouldn’t qualify for public funding.

After trying without any assistance for over a year, we decided that time was running out due to my age, so we underwent IVF which cost us around $15,000. We had two successfully fertilised embryos however neither resulted in a pregnancy. We couldn’t afford to try any treatment again so have continued to hope for a natural pregnancy, but with no luck.

Tests carried out by the fertility clinic haven’t pinpointed any issue other than my age so, sadly, four years on from the miscarriage, we’re trying to come to terms with the fact that we might never be able to have a child.

One evening, my amazing cousin suggested something we hadn’t considered – she offered to be an egg donor. After much consideration, we have decided to take her up on her offer. Kayla is such a kind-hearted person and I know she’d give our baby some wonderful genes!

I’ve made initial enquiries with the fertility clinic and discovered that it’s an even more expensive process using a donor and we’ll need around $20,000. We’d really like to be able to get things under way this year so are asking for any donation that could help us achieve this life-changing wish. We’d be forever grateful and would ensure our child knows about your contribution to their existence!
