Please support Dylan as his mum passed away from cancer
Taranaki
Delwyn was an incredible daughter, sister and friend who blew everyone away with her kindness and thoughtfulness. And her amazing talent to always find the perfect GIF. Most of all though, she was a fantastic mum to Dylan, her 8-year-old son.
It was a big shock for Delwyn to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and had to undergo multiple surgeries, chemo and radiation during a pandemic - while still being a single mum to her beloved son. However, she came out the other side and life was looking up till recently.
Two weeks ago, a friend took her to the emergency department as, in her words, “things didn’t feel right”. Sadly, scans show the cancer had returned and is widespread. Delwyn was admitted to hospital immediately and remained there until her passing. Treatment was not an option, however, her room was full of friends and family sitting with her, surrounding her with love and letting her know she was not alone.
We know that Delwyn touched many lives in small and big ways. From those she has worked with and taught in ESOL, to fellow parents in her community, people she went to university with, or those who also know the breast cancer path.
Delwyn was 43 years old and had been looking forward to many years of watching her son grow, sharing in the joy of his life and being there for him every step along the way.
We are asking for funds to support Dylan and ensure that every opportunity is still possible for him now that his Mum is not able to be there in person.
Delwyn and I were been friends for 25 years. We went to Massey University together, flatted in Auckland and travelled to London. My son is the same age as Dylan.
Future education or any other costs he may need. Funds going to Dylans father Barry.
Sad news to share with you 24 June 2023
It's with great sadness that I let you know that Delwyn passed away yesterday after 2 weeks in hospital. She had many friends and loved ones who came to see her during this time and many more who sent messages from overseas. We send love and light to her family during this time. I'm thankful for all that she has done in this life and I'm at peace knowing that she is not suffering anymore.
I will miss you, my beautiful friend.
