Fundraising for Mount Maunganui local Tao Mouldey to compete in the ISA Junior World Surfing Championships in El Salvador.

Our son Tao is honoured to be selected to represent NZ Junior Surf Team in El Salvador at the Junior Worlds Surfing Championships this May.

Tao has salt water in his veins and from the age of 4 he has been mad keen on surfing with his goal of getting to the top of the sport. He’s been surfing extremely hard over the last few years travelling NZ for competitions, winning 13 out of 16 National Surfing NZ competitions across the u14 & u16 division in the last year & placing 1st overall in NZ for both divisions. Most recently taking out the 2022 Billabong Grom series winner for u16s. To date this year he has won 4 out of 5 u16 nationally related comps and has just won his first u18 comp (aged 14).

The World Juniors is the biggest junior surfing event in the world with over 340 competitors from 44 nations and the first time New Zealand has had a chance to compete since 2019 due to covid. Tao will be competing in the under 16 age division and is beyond excited to represent his beloved Mount Maunganui & New Zealand alongside his awesome team.

Tao is down-to-earth, outgoing, humble and kind. Its taken a lot of dedication on his behalf and from us as his family to get him to this level and we now seeking a little support from the community to get him to El Salvador. Even though Tao is representing NZ there is no funding from Surfing NZ or High Performance Sport NZ and with only 8 weeks to go we are looking to the local community for some support ~ With Gratitude Nath + Jen
