Carmen tragically lost her life in a terrible car accident, leaving behind five devastated children.
Nelson / Tasman
Early on Sunday 11th March, Carmen Yanko was driving to set up her stall at the Nelson Sunday market. Suddenly, an oncoming and speeding vehicle, which while being pursued by the police, hit her car and Carmen was tragically killed.
Carmen was a wonderful mother to five children. She worked hard to support them and encouraged them to live their best lives, always. Her death has left her young family reeling and has also put a lot of pressure on them financially with costs related to the farewell, and their futures. The youngest three, aged 17, 19 and 21, are still finding their feet as young adults; finishing high-school and heading to university.
We, friends of the family, respectfully call on the New Zealand community to help ease this financial pressure during this heartbreaking time, by giving what you can.
I am a good friend of the eldest child of Carmen Yanko. Myself and her friends have started this Give A Little page as a way to help support her and her younger siblings.
Donations will go towards the immediate costs related to Carmen's service and help her humble and hard-working children on the long road ahead into adult life.
