Pods for Texas babies
Pepi-Pods for flood-affected Texas babies to enable safe sleep during a time of chaos for their families and increased risk for them.

Babies are a particularly vulnerable group in times of natural disaster. Hurricane Harvey has tipped thousands of Texan infants into increased risk of sudden infant death by disrupting the living and sleeping conditions for families. It is harder for parents to provide safe sleeping conditions when fearful and displaced. An emergency baby bed may support parents and protect their babies
Change for our Children Limited's involvement (page creator)
Change for our Children leads the Pepi-Pod Programme in New Zealand, so we have the materials and networks to make this response. We will coordinate all aspects of manufacture and supply of goods to the point of shipping. From there, Texan authorities will coordinate collection, and distribution to shelters.
Use of funds
Funds raised will be used to supply Pepi-Pod sleep spaces to Texan infants displaced by the floods. Pepi-Pods are supplied in New Zealand to infants more vulnerable to sleep related deaths. Texan infants will receive a pod, mattress and two slip-on bottom sheets in the package, and a letter of goodwill to Texan parents from the people of New Zealand. Funds will also be used to freight the pods to Texas unless we receive offers to help with this.

Time to say THANK YOU to every one of you 73 donors who donated so generously to this project. Together we raised $3300.00 and brought huge appreciation to the teams in Houston who will take this forward.
It is likely that some pods will be shared with other disaster sites, in Florida and Puerto Rico, too.
We have a distribution hub to receive, store and distribute pods and a large network of midwives to identify infants and families who may benefit.
We have put together a web page for disaster relief responders so that those distributing can be linked to safe sleep education.
