To expand our Learn to Sail courses for the junior sailors of Golden Bay
Nelson / Tasman
For many years the Pohara Boat Club has offered Learn to Sail courses for the junior sailors of Golden Bay in our fleet of Optimist sailing dinghies. While the Optimist remains a sturdy and safe yacht for introducing kids to the fundamentals of sailing, we are keen to provide an intermediate level boat that junior sailors may graduate to, for more technical and competitive sailing.
An exciting opportunity to upgrade our sail training fleet has arrived with the introduction of the O’pen Bic class yacht to NZ (http://openbic.org.nz).
The NZ class association says this about the O’pen Bic:
The O’pen BIC, with its modern and powerful rig, is a fast boat, quick to respond, self-bailing, and is fitted by the best marine hardware manufacturers (North, Ronstan, Robline). The O’pen BIC is THE link between the Optimist generation and the new generation of sailing dinghies.
Launched in 2006, the O’pen BIC has already convinced more than 7000 young sailors around the world. They love the fun they can get out of it, its capacity to react fast and its prowess. An ISAF international class is also very active for those who enjoy competitive racing.
We are hoping to raise sufficient funds to purchase 6 of these yachts, and to help our fundraising effort, the Pohara Boat Club is hosting a fishing competition over the weekend of 27th/28th January 2018, from its base at Port Tarakohe. We are seeking sponsorship or donations, who are interested in supporting the development of junior sailors in Golden Bay.
I am the Social Coordinator at the Pohara Boat Club, along with Cooking the Sunday Meals i organize events & functions that are based at the Club.
The funds will be used to purchase the new boats so future generations can continue to learn to sail in our safe waters of golden Bay
On behalf of the Pohara Boat Club i would like to say THANK YOU very much for your generous donation. Amy
