Support a future doctor to become proficient in ultrasound and improve rural healthcare.
Masterton, Wellington
I’m a medical student completing formal training in ultrasound during my final year of clinical placement, and I’m fundraising for a portable ultrasound probe to support my training and future work as a clinician.
Ultrasound is a critical tool for rapid assessments, particularly in rural areas where access to imaging can be limited. It’s frequently used to identify internal bleeding, confirm pregnancy complications, and guide safe procedures. However, hospital-based probes aren’t always readily available, which makes regular training difficult. A portable ultrasound probe would allow me to practise whenever I can, keeping my skills sharp and ready.
Without an income during medical school, purchasing a probe on my own has been off the cards.
This isn’t just about my training, it’s about improving care for patients across rural New Zealand. With your support, I aim to become proficient in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and pass these skills on to colleagues and future medical students. I’m committed to rural medicine and ensuring patients in these communities receive timely and accurate assessments.
All funds raised will go towards purchasing a reliable Butterfly IQ3 portable ultrasound probe for training myself and hopefully others in the future.
