'The Promise of Hope' orphanage in Kenya is undergoing a $12,000 expansion to provide shelter, care and education to 25 additional children!
Marlborough
In 2011, New Zealand mother of 7 and foster-mother of countless, Pene Sergeant, traveled to Kenya. While there, Pene met a Kenyan couple who were supporting many abandoned local children.
She knew something needed to be done to support this wonderful couple, and so now financially supports them to look after 25 children! The orphanage is called “The Promise of Hope” and is based in Kisii - (500km east of Nairobi). The children come from all over Kenya. Often the children are abandoned due to their parents dying of AIDS or because their parents can no longer afford to feed them.
Pene has also recently built additional living spaces to be opened in January 2016. This additional orphanage space will provide shelter and care for 25 more children! The current expansions include building a kitchen, dining room and activities room (a room where the children can play and do their homework). The children currently push their beds up against the walls in the dormitories, to have room to play.
Pene will be travelling to Kenya on January the 12th, 2016, to observe the finalization of the new expansions and for the official opening of 'The Promise of Hope'. All money donated will directly go to the orphanages as Pene pays for her own flight and expenses. You can be assured that EVERY dollar that is donated is accounted for. All receipts are sent to Pene for all expenses paid for the orphanage.
Pene has traveled twice more to Kenya since 2011, to educate the orphanage staff in childcare and first aid. During these travels, she has been able to see firsthand the difference 'The Promise of Hope' is making to the lives of the orphaned children. On her January 2016 trip to Kenya, Pene is planning on educating the entire community on both hygiene and first aid to increase their standards of living.
The orphanage 'The Promise of Hope' constantly needs financial support to provide food, shelter, clothing, education and other necessities for the children. To this date, Pene has relied on her own modest income and selfless donations from the community to entirely support the orphanage. Due to the upcoming additional expansion of the orphanage to include 25 more children in need, we are asking on Pene's behalf for public donations.
We hope to set up a Facebook page soon for 'The Promise of Hope' so that you can directly see how your donations support the orphaned children.
