Pronouns 101: Name Badges with Pronouns for Medical Students

  • Thank you for everything!

      29 May 2021

Thank you to everyone has donated to this campaign. Our fundraising will officially be closing Sun 30 May at 11:59pm.

We have now raised enough for over 300 more badges. We are taking steps to expand our project to medical students at the University of Otago.

Our University of Auckland Equity staff are showing interest in expanding our project beyond just our medical school.

Thanks to your support, we have received a lot of coverage and publicity which has been starting important dialogue in all of the right places. Thank you all so much!

  • Final Week for Fundraising

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our campaign! We are now entering our final week for fundraising.

Currently we have enough fundraising for about 320 badges. Can you help us raise enough for 500 badges?

Remember we are a registered charity and all donations are tax deductible. Any sharing of our campaign website would be greatly appreciated.

We are so overwhelmed with how positively this campaign has been received. Between coverage on our University website and student-led magazine (Craccum) to having an article making it to the New Zealand Herald website, we are so pleased with the dialogue that this campaign has started and how actively everyone has engaged with that dialogue.

We are currently having talks with students from the New Zealand Medical Students' Association, as well as staff from the University of Otago, to support them in expanding our concept to medical students from Otago as well.

Thank you for all of your support. We are so excited to be ordering and distributing so many new badges next week!

With the incredible momentum that this grassroots campaign has built over the past 5 days, we have managed to raise enough funding for just under 250 badges! We have exceeded all expectations of what we thought was achievable.

We are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported the campaign. The success of this campaign to date is your success - you did this!

Today we sought advice and did some careful planning to develop a new meaningful target for this Pronouns 101 project campaign.

Our medical school has over 1000 students. With this considered, we have made the decision to aim for 500 name badges with pronouns. In order to deliver on this, we will need to fundraise $7000 (500 badges x $14 per badge).

How incredible would it be if almost 1 in 2 medical students had a name badge with their pronouns? We believe we can do this, but we need your support!

Share the fundraiser on twitter or Facebook! Share the link on your instagram bio! Share the launch post on your instagram stories! Tell your friends and whānau!

Every time people have shared our campaign, we have seen significant boosts in the number of badges provided! So, for the sake of our LGBTQITakatāpui+ patients: Share! Share! Share!

This campaign is OUR campaign and we need every last bit of support to smash this new target!

  • Careful Planning Underway to Expand the Project

We are immensely grateful to everyone who has helped us reach our $3250 fundraising target. Thank you so much.

We are still accepting donations, so please continue to share and promote this page.

We are now taking steps to do some careful and considered planning around developing a new target for this campaign. In the interim, we have given the campaign an open goal.

We will be having a call with the Director of Auckland Pride tomorrow to seek advice to strengthen this campaign. We believe that the success of this campaign has been rooted in its tangible fundraising goal, which was linked to a specific number of badges. With this in mind, we will give another project update tomorrow with a considered and meaningful new fundraising target.

So far, this campaign has achieved success beyond what we thought was achievable. Most incredible of all is that it has all happened within just 5 days.

If anything, the overwhelming success of this campaign has highlighted how desperately we need to see improvements to the queer competency education in our medical school. So, for the sake of our LGBTQITakatāpui+ patients, please continue to share, promote and donate to this campaign.
