Psy-Care NZ Inc. is an entirely volunteer run organisation, operating on-site at events and festivals around Te Wai Pounamu. We operate under a harm reduction framework, an approach that acknowledges the reality of drug use in our society and implements evidence-based practices such as drug education and on-the-ground support to minimise the risks associated with drug use. We are also on hand for general distress unrelated to drug use as the environment can be overwhelming; the psychoactive and the psychological!
With these funds we will put some toward our storage fees ($32.50 p/w) and will also look at upgrading some of our gear for the coming season. We are looking for a new kitchen tent, a standard one room canvas tent with an awning large enough to keep our cooking area dry, awning walls are a bonus! With this area we will sustain our volunteers and provide food and drinks to guests in need.
EDIT: We have purchased a wonderful 2nd hand tent for $200!
We have other ongoing costs such as domain fees for our website: https://psycare.nz/
We have repairs expected on our tents over the summer as the Cobb Valley is well known for extreme weather. We fix what we can ourselves, but sometimes it is beyond our ability.
Ultimately we want to feel stable that we can continue to run this service for Te Wai Pounamu, and are hoping for some support from our community.
“Having you at this festival, and knowing there’s somewhere to go, makes me feel so safe” - Freya, Psy-Care Visitor.
