Everyone should be able to feel prepared and have the necessary gear and supplies to survive an earthquake or other emergency.
Wellington
This page is to raise funds for people in Wellington who aren't in a position to get their own emergency kit.
Emergency services are predicting significant aftershocks and are reminding everyone to be prepared for another big quake in Wellington. Emergency kits can save lives but they cost money that not everyone can afford.
So we are raising funds to buy emergency kit gear for families in Wellington who need it.
All funds will go directly towards items listed on the government recommended emergency kit - http://getthru.govt.nz/how-to-get-ready/emergency-survival-items/
The kits will be distributed to families who are part of the Wellington City Mission programs.
My friend who works in emergency response has recommended the following as a bare minimum for an emergency kit:
Torch - $5
Torch batteries - $10
Pocket radio - $10
Radio batteries - $8
Black rubbish bags - $8
Basic first aid kit - $5
Dust masks - $3
Emergency blanket - $2
2 buckets - $5
4x 10L water containers - $20
Basic food items = $15
= approx $90 per emergency kit
We are also looking for direct donations of above gear (new or second-hand) - please head to our facebook page and send us a message if you would like to help in this way. Thank you!
My name is Nina and I started this fundraiser because I know I felt a hell of a lot safer once I had a full emergency kit and I would like everyone in Wellington to feel like that!
I'm a young professional living in Mt Victoria and just wanted to do something helpful in response to the earthquakes.
