Can you help support the Race4Life Trust wish service?

$28,975 donated
Given by 267 generous donors in around 10 months

The beautiful work of this organisation is looking for funds to support the wish granting service.

Nationwide

The Race4Life Trust, the only not-for-profit dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of terminally ill adults in New Zealand, is calling for public donations to support its beautiful work. Like many charitable organisations struggling to raise funds during the pandemic, we are looking for a helping hand with our wish costs.

The organisation is in its seventh year after being founded in 2015 by Viv James. With a background in palliative care at Auckland’s Mercy Hospice, Viv established Race4Life – a service granting wishes to New Zealanders over the age of 18 with a terminal illness.

Viv’s story was recently previewed on TVOne’s Good Sorts and can be viewed by clicking on this link:

Wishes granted by Race4Life are as varied as the imagination and include destination wishes all over New Zealand, celebrations of life and money-can’t-buy experiences. These range from meeting famous icons, skydiving, hot air ballooning, hot laps in race cars and everything in between! These special experiences leave patients and their whanau with cherished memories. But it is not only the patients that benefit. The communities who bring our wishes to life are also hugely impacted by their involvement and the act of giving.

Race4Life has worked with over 600 patients to date and counting! There are currently over 20 wishes on our waitlist, with more applications being received each month. Although much of the wish cost is donated through the generosity of the goods and service providers we work with, it is help for the non- donated costs that we are asking for help with.

Pre COVID-19, major fundraising events and grants covered the costs associated with maintaining the wish service. However, after a challenging two years and event restrictions still in place, the Race4Life team would love your help!

If our story or work has touched your heart, we ask for and welcome your donations. Every little bit helps.

THANK YOU!

About us

The aim of Race4LifeTrust is to facilitate events for Palliative Care patients. These events connect patient family and community. Despite shutting down the individualised wish service, due to the impact of COVID the focus of the RACE4LIFE trust has continued by shifting to solely hold events with the aim of reaching the lives of as many palliative care patients as possible. The Hampton Downs Track Day event (which is where the Race4Life started) has continued to be run, and has become totally self-sufficient over 15 years. This has enabled the trust to continue to provide special MAGIC among the 600 people who attend.

The Trust has now built this event into a series of similar events and have subsequently replicated this model on the South Island at Teretonga Motor Sport Park in Invercargill, albeit a much smaller event. Plus in October 2024, the inaugural Central NZ Track Day event will take place at Manfeild Chris Amon Circuit in Palmerston North, with an estimated 450 people, expected to attend.

Use of funds

Race4Life is in particular need presently for your help and support. If you can help, please donate, knowing you are making a huge difference as we did many years ago, to the Leadley Family.

With your continued support and donations, we can help fulfil wishes like Ethan's Queenstown Wish  13 April 2022

Posted by: Vivienne James

Ethan Kitto-Smith, only 23 years old and lives in Gore, has been battling Leukaemia for 5 years. Despite his diagnosis, Ethan likes to live life to the very fullest.

He approached Race4Life with a wish to visit Queenstown, to experience a few days of fuel packed fun, thrills, scares, fantastic food, gorgeous scenery and some wonderful new memories to cherish.

Ethan took his two special friends, Cody and Sarah, to enjoy and be a part of these very precious few days. They had the most amazing time in Queenstown.

They stayed at the Crowne Plaza with a view of the Lake, Skydived at I-Fly, got scared at Fear Factory. The team enjoyed a gorgeous meal at Lone Star, went up the gondola and down on the luge, grabbed burgers at Fergburger, took a speed ride on The Shotover Jet, had lots of fun at Thrillzone and finally enjoyed a hearty breakfast at Joe's Garage before returning home.

Thank you to the most amazing people in Queenstown who came on board at such short notice!! 🌟🌟🌟
