Help raise $2000 for the childrens’ ward at the Vila Central Hospital, Vanuatu, to repair the ceiling damage from cyclones Kevin and Judy.
Wellington
Money will go directly to materials to replace the damaged and missing ceiling tiles from the local hardware store. Your support will enable the hospital maintenance team’s repair as the hospital has no funds to buy materials.
The damaged ceiling is in part of the childrens' ward so they can only use two thirds of the space which means overcrowding.
The damage is also over a room at the back of childrens’ ward that was once designated as a childrens’ playroom but when the ceiling sustained cyclone damage, it became a storage space for disused equipment. If repaired and refurbished, this space has the potential to be a counselling and social work room.
There is currently no appropriate space for counselling work with children and their families at the hospital. There is also no appropriate space that could be used as a family-centred area where children and families could relax, interact and enjoy some time away from the busy and overcrowded ward.
Children come for treatment for a range of serious illnesses and injuries, including malnutrition, infections and sepsis, chronic diseases, and severe injuries. Children and families stay there for months.

Thank you very much for helping the children and their families to have a safe place in the children’s ward to relax and talk.

My kids' mum (Erin) went to Vanuatu (with Police NZ) to help with social work and met Diane Edwards who volunteers at the hospital. Erin will send overseas to a colleague (Diane Edwards) social worker in Vanuatu.
