Raise the Roof for Kaitao

At Kaitao Intermediate School, our turf is at the heart of so much of school life.

It is used for physical education, sport, recreation, cultural activities, school events, lunchtime programmes and opportunities that bring our students and whānau together.

But Rotorua weather does not always cooperate!

Rain, heat and strong sun can limit when and how we use this valuable space. That is why we are launching Raise the Roof for Kaitao — a two-year project to create a large, covered, all-weather area over part of our existing turf.

Our current plan is for a covered area of approximately 800m², providing enough space for around two classes to use the facility at the same time.

The finished space will give our students greater opportunities for:

physical education and sport;

recreation and lunchtime activities;

kapa haka and cultural practices;

performances and school celebrations;

assemblies and special events;

wellbeing and student engagement activities;

international student programmes;

wet-weather learning and activities; and

appropriate whānau and community use.

Most importantly, it will give our tamariki a space they can rely on throughout the year.
