A broke student trying to go places and make happy faces and aid the world!
Auckland
At Rutherford college I have signed up for an amazing opportunity through a company know as Wallacea. We have chosen to fly to Indonesia specifically the Buton islands, and help participate in Biological research. It involves spending one week in the jungle going up and down trees basically being our own little lorax and also keeping track of endangered animals. We also will venture into local villages to help encourage them to become more environment aware. This includes helping local fishers understand sustainablity. In the second week we observe marine species and coral reefs. we get to go through a diving course aswell which it pretty neat!
One of the key reasons I would love to be able to attend this trip is because of the impact a small little kiwi has the chance to make! It would also be a time for me to have some self reflection and sort out my own personal fears and reach my goals!
If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me and I should be more than happy to oblige : wooller99@gmail.com
In this cause I am going to be acting as an assistant researcher aiding in the count of species and helping out the environment. I will also be interacting with local villages and helping them establish environmental friendly ways of interacting with the world. This includes establishing new laws around the environment.
The funds will go towards the total cost of being able to go on the operation wallacea trip. It will not go on any spending money or lesiure for myself all goes directly to my saver account which I cannot access until July next year. The good thing about this trip is the funds dont go back into a multi million company it goes towards the local villages and research centres we visit.
