Raising funds for an AED Defibrillator

Hi everyone,

Many of you may know that every year we choose a local charity in lieu of birthday gifts for Sawyer. In the past we have donated to Chch Bullbreed Rescue, Foster Hope and The Champion Centre. This year Sawyer and I are going to do a joint birthday charity fundraiser.

It's my 40th on Sept 11th (aghhhhh) and Sawyer's 6th birthday on October 8th. We have everything we need and would rather use this opportunity to help those in need.

I've thought long and hard about this, doing lots of research and have come to the decision that we will raise funds for an AED Defibrillator which will be housed in Sawyers School, St Francis on Innes Road.

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

My research on this has opened my eyes to some scary stats and touch wood may we never need the assistance of an AED.

-1 in 3 deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease. -Every 90 mins a New Zealander dies from heart disease -Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer of women globally.

An AED defibrillation can improve cardiac arrest survival by over 35%.

These machines are not cheap and start to retail from about $2000 plus. Only donate if you can, no judgement made if you can't.

I have set up a separate bank account under my name for this. I am starting this fundraiser now as $2000 is a lot of money.
