The girls arrived in Nelson on a flight from Auckland on the 18th Dec having come direct from 10days in quarantine. They were exhausted, smelly, excited and in need of some exercise but very happy to see me. The last 10 days have been pretty intense with settling them in and getting them used to new smells, sounds, people, places, animals etc. Bordeaux is doing pretty well considering her high fear aggression, Haley wants to chase every small creature she sees and kill it - so my cat is less than please or safe at present, Muma just seems to be delighted to be with me again :) so now the task of rehabilitation continues, and eventual re homing of three very awesome dogs. Meanwhile my credit card needs some Love........

The girls are currently in quarantine in Auckland at QPS - amazing people, so helpful and caring. It was a hectic last few days on the Island with blood tests being held up by customs and last minute changes to export permits putting the pressure on everyone, multiple trips to customs and last minute changes to crates. At 3.30am on the 7th Dec I took the dogs (four in total as one for someone else) on their last drive through their homeland to load them into the crates. It was a very emotional early morning journey knowing I was responsible for taking these gorgeous creatures from their Island paradise, however also knowing the Island wasn't a paradise for an unwanted un-homed dog. They are due to arrive in Nelson this coming Friday, Sooo looking forward to being reunited with them and helping them adjust to a new life. Thank you so much to all 80 of you who have donated, Big Bless. The GAL page is now open until the 31st Dec. Andrea xox

  • 3 days to go!!

      4 December 2015

With three days to go till the girls leave things are almost finalised, the crates, the paper work (of which there is heaps :), the bookings on the plane and in quarantine, Import - export permits, medical clearances etc. The page here has done well and thanks to everyone for the support!! I am still well short of what I need and hopefully some more donations will come in over the next three days. :) I am doing this anyway. My credit card will take a hit and I will be heading into NZ broke but knowing I have done the right thing :) thanks Andrea

  • It's All Go!!

      16 November 2015

HI, I just want to Thank you all so much for the donations and the incredibly kind comments which come with the donations, they are as appreciated and they make me realise, even more, how worthwhile this is and how many awesome people there are on the planet that care and love for animals. Many Blessings to all of you

So to update on progress, The three girls are now micro chipped, the quarantine is booked with QuailfiedPetServices in Takanini, Auckland who have come on board and given a discount for the time the dogs are in quarantine as well as doing the airport pick up for free - it's fantastic and certainly helps with reducing costs.

I have had two more travel crates made here - just need some finishing touches for them to be compliant for Air NZ. This week the girls will journey to the cargo deport for weighing of them and the crates so we can get a price for flying them. We are hoping Air NZ may come on board and offer a reduced rate....work in progress. The date for export is set for 7th Dec, the dogs are to be at the cargo depot by 4am that morning.

The export permits have been applied for with MPI in NZ and the blood tests the dogs require are booked and will be done Sunday 22nd November as per requirement to be done within 14 days of export.

Other than that the girls are now spending their last three weeks in Rarotonga, it was a big decision for me to move them from their homeland and to put them through the flights and the quarantine period, the vaccines and the blood tests -however when weighed up against their unknown fates here this certainly feels like the best thing for these animals.

I am working hard to re-home three more special dogs (currently in the shelter) here on the island before I leave, in safe forever homes, if anyone has any contacts on the island looking for an awesome pet/best friend, please let them know.

This one is Bordeaux's crate - she wasn't sure about getting in when it first arrived so I am trying it for size! Bordeaux is the largest dog I am bringing home - well tallest! she's pretty slim, it looks like she'll have heaps of room to move about and hopefully not be too freaked out by the whole flying experience and moving and being handled. I have rescue remedy for her and will make sure I put in her water on the days before she departs and in the water she journey's with. wish I could explain to them what's happening!!
