Raising funds for a refugee family to purchase a new car after it was so cruely stolen and destroyed.
Maupuia, Wellington
This was the car of Mu Gay, his brother Win Naing Soe and their parents Than Than Nyain and A Noung. It was cruely stolen from outside their home on the 20th November in Maupuia and completely destroyed.
This refugee family were resettled in Wellington in January 2019. They fled the persecution of their homeland in Burma where the brutal military regime invaded villages and used them as they pleased.
They fled Burma to Thailand and lived in a refugee camp for 19 years in a small bamboo hut.
New Zealand was their new home and hope and this is just devasting to the family.
The car was used like a derby car for the thieves sick entertainment and abandoned at the old Mount Crawford prison. The removal then became the families responsibility too.
Sadly, due to the families financial situation they could only afford third party insurance which means they are now left out of pocket, without transportation and bewildered that someone would do such a thing.
Please help this family get their feet back on the ground. Any donation is greatly appreciated and if you are not in a position to donate then please share.
Many thanks

I'm an ex charity worker who worked in the camp this family lived, they are now family friends of ours.
Towards a new car for the family and any other costs related.
Thank you for your generosity 4 December 2021
I just wanted to do a quick update to say thank you so much to all the generous and genuinely kind people who have reached out in some way, or donated and of course all the words of support and encouragement.
The family are overwhelmed with the aroha, kindness and generosity being shown towards them after experiencing something so cruel. It's incredibly hard to find the right words to express how truly grateful they are.
In addition to the donations there have also been kind offers of employment and transportation assistance which I am working my way through.
They will most certainly be in a position to purchase a reliable car, with FULL insurance and even a car alarm!
What a wonderful community of people you all are. We never in our wildest dreams thought we could raise this sort of money to help the family. In a time when we are all facing our own challenges, and the fast approaching festive season you have really shown them the kiwi spirit of kindness and inclusivity and for that we thank you.
From the bottom of our hearts
Thank you thank you thank you
