Help families in poverty rebuild from Typhoon Odette
Auckland
Typhoon Odette ravaged the central part of the Philippines with a current death toll of more than 100 total and over 70 in Bohol, and many people have lost the roof of their house or the whole house altogether.
Power will not be restored in the town until March 2022 earliest. Agriculture and food sources have been completely wiped out, so many families are not only homeless but they are also without food and clean water, as they can not afford grocery items or dry goods and live off the land.
I am setting this page up for the people from my community, the Barangay (town/suburb) Taongon Can-andam, Dimiao, Bohol where I am from, where many of the families have no income and live in poverty. Most of the houses are more than 100 years old and just like that, they are gone! Please donate what you can as it will make all the difference.
Funds will be passed to Josephine Canillas. The person receiving the funds is a barangay official of Taongon Can-andam, Dimiao Bohol. Josephine has been working with the barangay officials, doing checking of every houses that has been ruined. She knows exactly who needed most of the help as she has been visiting every houses and has photos of the damaged properties. She has been helping together with the barangay officials to clear all the trees that has been uprooted and damaged the properties.
I am one of a very small handful of people from the Barangay who have successfully left and made my home in a 'First World' developed country and my husband and I are full-time students, unable to help much financially.
This fund is for the costs of building supplies to repair approx. 200 houses. I am connected with the local hardware store and Barangay Captain (community leader) - we will pay directly to the hardware store for the supplies.
