Help Relieve The Pressure

  • Are you one of those people?

In the last week we were truly blown away by the many hundreds who answered yes. They risked embarrassment in front of a crowd, all to support New Zealanders in need, New Zealanders under immense pressure because of a broken back or neck.

Our week long appeal is now officially over, but it's not too late to help if you'd still like to.

    THREE A WEEK

Many of the hundreds who stepped into a wheelchair to take up the obstacle course challenge at the Palms Mall and University of Canterbury where shocked at how difficult it was to navigate the short course in a wheelchair, and the fact that three Kiwis a week are paralysed by a spinal cord injury was sobering.

    SMILES AND LAUGHS

But in the spirit in which the events were intended there were only laughs, friendly competition, and generosity shown. Thank you so much to all who participated, volunteered, supported and cheered on from the sidelines. It was a huge success and we are grateful for your support. Watch the video of The Palms event linked with this post.

    WHERE DO THE FUNDS GO?

It costs us over a million dollars to provide peer and family support, back to work support, and specialist training and knowledge services to New Zealanders affected by a spinal cord injury. This year we are under increased pressure to make up for a lost funding source.

As of writing, $14,000 from 200+ generous donors, has been raised.

Thank you to all who gave generously in the last week, both financially and otherwise. We really appreciate you.

    Hans Wouters, CEO

The Weekend's Wheelchair Challenge at the Palms Mall in Christchurch was a huge success on many levels. Much awareness was raised, some generous donations given, and a whole lot of laughs had by all. Thank you to everyone who participated, cheered from the sidelines, and of course helped organise and run the event. The photo is of Jack Norriz who posted a very respectable time of 1min 46 secs. The fastest time on the day was an astounding 29.06 seconds!

To all of oyu have have so far made a donation THANKYOU!

Our total raised so far is over $13k and that will certainly help relieve the pressure.

Two days to go! What can we get to?

    Thank you! Thank you!

30 generous donors so far. We really appreciate your financial support!

Today was a big day. On World Spinal Cord Injury Day we invited executives, friends and politicians to use a wheelchair for the day to raise awareness for those who need them for their mobility and in particular those with a spinal cord injury.

The Hon. Ministers Carmel Sepuloni and Iain Lees Galloway spent the better part of the day in parliament to support this appeal, as did many others who would not otherwise need to use a wheelchair. Check our Facebook page to see some of them.

    Thank you thank you!

Tomorrow we will share more news and events.
