Remembering Guy-50 Years On

In December 1976, during severe flooding in Wellington, a devastating landslide occurred at Huntleigh Guide Hall in Crofton Downs.

Among those caught in the tragedy was Guy Baron Redfern-Hardisty, a much-loved little boy of just three and a half, who lost his life that day.

Fifty years on, two of the children who survived the landslide, Jane Fahy and Susanne Stables, together with Susanne’s sister Wendy, want to ensure that Guy’s name and memory are not forgotten.

With the knowledge and support of Guy’s surviving family, we hope to create a simple, lasting memorial in his name, a bench seat and commemorative plaque, providing a place for quiet reflection and remembrance.

We are raising $3,500 to cover the bench, plaque and installation. No funds will be used for personal benefit, and the fundraiser will close once this has been raised.

This is not about dwelling on the tragedy. It is about remembering a little boy whose life mattered, acknowledging the loss carried by his family, and recognising the many people whose lives were touched by that day.

After 50 years, we want to say simply:

Guy, you mattered.
 You are remembered.
 You are not forgotten.
