Pounding pavements for the sport lovers living with dementia, depression and loneliness.
Auckland
In October 2021, Carl Fenton and I signed up to run the rescheduled 2021 Auckland Half Marathon, seeking to raise $1000 for the Sporting Memories Foundation Aotearoa New Zealand (SM-FANZ), a newly established Charitable Trust that facilitates the use of reminiscence and recreational therapy to help reconnect sport lovers living with dementia, depression and loneliness.
In January 2022, having more than doubled what we set out to raise, I pledged that I would double the distance for my next fundraising challenge.
On Sunday October 30th I will fulfil this promise, completing the Auckland Marathon for the first time. Once again, i am looking to raise some funds - ideally another $2000 - to help our new mental health charity.
The Sporting Memories Foundation Aotearoa New Zealand (SMFANZ) actively combine the power of reminiscence and recreational therapy to put a smile on the faces of sport lovers living with dementia, depression and loneliness.
The funds will primarily be used to help cover the charity's annual public liability insurance premium. Any additional money will be put towards the creation of some Sporting Memories KITBags (see video).

Congratulations to the Black Ferns wahine who are World Cup champions once more. What a final! It was a game that will surely be talked about for generations.
Speaking of memories, and finals, this is the final week of our Auckland Marathon Fundraiser, in which SM FANZ trustees are trying to raise $2000 to help establish the first wave of weekly Sporting Memories Clubs across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
Thank you to all those who have already donated.
If you’ve been meaning to, but not yet got round to doing it, please help us to help those who sadly wont remember the history made at Eden Park on Saturday night.
