      14 December 2009

Hi everyone. Merry Christmas! Since my last update donations have continued to come in for the Riding for Rakiura bike ride and we have now raised almost $60,000-00!! This is a tremendous effort and has far exceeded our expectations. Individuals are seeing their friends and family continue to make donations even after the ride has finished which is extremely encouraging, and really does show a true generosity of spirit. All of these donations, every cent and every dollar will go into the Stewart Island Project fund, and help us on our way to building facilities which will support future generations of young people explore the beautiful natural environment of this unique location.Thank you again for your support, enjoy your Christmas festivities and best wishes for the holiday season and new year. - If you would like to make a donation to the Stewart Island Project click on the donate now link.

Now that the Riding for Rakiura bike ride is over, our riders are back at work - some still yearning for the great outdoors and the call of the road- others relieved that the ride is finally over and that they made it to Rotorua in one piece! The Ride has been hugely successful and we have raised $20562-75 on-line using Give-A-Little - a total of $50195-75 including business sponsorship donations. Thank you. Your support was a tremendous help - encouraging our riders every inch of the way and giving our fundraising goal for the Stewart Island Project a huge boost. It's the last day of the ride!! Tonight our intrepid bikers will have made it to Rotorua and will be celebrating their amazing bike ride over these past six days! Last night we had a flurry of activity trying to raise $1000-00 which would see Mark and Ben enduring the tremendous pain of a hot leg wax, all for the Riding for Rakiura cause! We didn't reach our $1000-00 target but did raise an addtional $300-00! I'm sure Mark and Ben breathed a huge sigh of relief!! - thank you to everyone who made a donation. We are so proud of our riders and the tremendous effort they made to raise money for the Stewart Island Project and very grateful to you all for your generous donations! Thank you! We could not have done this without you!

Thanks so much to you all for your support for the Ride for Rakiura and Stewart Island Project so far. The team are in Taupo now having braved a howling Southerly and snow on the Napier Taupo road today. Wefre closing in on $50,000 worth of donations now(nearly $17,500-00 of that from on-line Give A Little sponsorship) and would love to get over this line by the time we get to Rotorua. One of our youngest riders Amy Patterson from Queenstown has had a moment of hypothermia induced inspiration and booked CEO Mark Wells and Chairman Ben Mitchell in for a leg wax tonight. Wefre not asking too many questions about what led up to this, but naturally the boys are a little reluctant. If we can get a $1000 worth of donations by 6pm tonight out come the wax strips and off comes the leg hair!! Thankyou if you've already donated but if you would like to make another donation and help us reach our target then we would appreciate it. If you donate donft forget to mention itfs for the wax! If we get there wefll post the video on Youtube and the Givealittle website. It should provide hours of pleasure for those of us not having their leg hair pulled out by its roots!!

Wow! We are having an incredible response to our fundraising for the Riding for Rakiura bike ride. We have raised nearly $8500-00!! Thank you if you have donated. We really appreciate your support and with your help we can go that extra distance to reach our fundraising target. Help us get there in these last 10 days before the bike ride begins. All our riders are out there putting in an average of 8 hours training a week to make sure they can last the distance - even in the freezing sleet and horizontal winds we had last week! Amazing! Thanks everyone, with your help we will leave a wonderful legacy on Stewart Island for future generations of New Zealanders.
