I had been meaning to post an update but was a bit lost for words when it came to typing the update. Our hearts are very broken and it’s hard to come to terms that RJ is no longer with us, he passed away on the 31st of August. He put up an incredible fight right until the bitter end. We are eternally grateful to Rei Kōtuku (paediatric palliative care charity) for allowing us to have RJ at home until his final moments. Allowing him to be in a space he wanted to be in and ensuring he held onto his dignity. We will always be in awe of the amount of strength and courage that RJ had within and will continue to talk about him daily and share memories. He may be gone but will never be forgotten ❤️

  • IN REMISSION!!

      8 June 2023

Its been a while since we last updated on how things have been. I'll start with the good news, RJ is now in remission and has has all his chemo treatment that was required, which means no more week long trips to Auckland which is fabulous. He was hospitalised a few time towards the end due to infections but came out in top like the champ that he is. We are now focusing on getting RJ walking again and back into school. We are so grateful RJ has come out on top beating this cancer but it is with a very heavy heart we let you know our Mum passed away on the 25th of March, to say we are incredibly devastated is an understatement. She fought a tough battle and continued to be strong the Mother that raised us right to the end. Thank you all for the love and support during this time in our lives, it really means a lot.

Just an update on how RJ is doing, he has had his cast removed today which has put him in high spirits! Chemo is hitting him quite hard atm. RJ’s mobility will still be quite limited for the next month or so. Thank you for all the donations and support, we will now be turning off the donation option but will still post updates for those who want to stay updated. Much love from our family xxxxx

From Mum, RJ and the rest of our bunch we just want to thank every single person that has showed love and support for RJ, Mum and our family. We are so overwhelmed by the amount of complete strangers that care enough to donate and show their love and support! So once again, thank you for the prayers, aroha and donations. We had such a lovely Christmas, one will will never forget.

  • Great progress

RJ went back into theatre yesterday to have his dressings changed and a cast put on. All went well! He has been making great progress and is very determined to get moving again, and today he managed (with help from the nurses) to get into a wheelchair. This was not expected for at least another week or two, we are so very proud of him. He is very happy that Mum is up there with him and we are so glad that Mum is able to spend as much time as she can with him ❤️ We are also so grateful Aunty Queenie is able to be up in Auckland with Mum as her support person and also spend some quality time with Mum ❤️

  • Surgery done and dusted!

Yesterday (Monday 5th Dec) RJ went in for surgery to have the cancer in his pelvis removed and the surgeon said it went well! So now RJ will be in recovery mode before he starts his rehab to learn how to walk again as he has had a hip fusion. Unfortunately he will have a limp for the rest of his life but we are just grateful that he will still be here with us!! He will also start chemo again but we are unsure of dates, on a positive we are on the home stretch! Please keep RJ in your prayers because we are really hoping that we are coming to the end of this cancer journey. RJ is currently in Auckland with his amazing Aunty Nada who has been there to help at the drop of a hat. Mum will be flying up to Auckland on the 9th of Dec with Aunty Queenie and they will be with RJ until he is well enough to come home (mid-end of Jan). Myself and the rest of his siblings will be joining them on the 22nd of December to spend Christmas with RJ. Once again thank you all for all the love and support you have all shown our family through this really tough time, we are still overwhelmed by how much love everyone has shown us ❤️❤️❤️

  • Early Christmas

      8 November 2022

Yesterday we had an early Christmas since we will be up in Auckland for Christmas this year. We can’t thank everyone enough for the the love, support and financial help! All the donations have taken financial stress off us so that we are able to spend Christmas as a family as we don’t know if Mum will be with us next year. We are waiting on confirmation on dates for when RJ will need to be in Auckland for surgery and are hoping to find that out on Thursday. For the time being RJ will be making the most of not needing to be hooked up to a machine receiving Chemo and being in the comfort of his own home ❤️

  • Routine Check Up

      28 October 2022

RJ had his appointment today to check his bloods to make sure he is all good to travel to Christchurch on Monday for his last round of chemotherapy down there. He also had a chest X-Ray as he has been having some chest pain and the chest X-Ray has come back all good! RJ will need to head back in for another check over on Monday before he gets the all clear to travel as some of his blood results weren’t what they need to be. RJ is really happy this will be his last visit to Christchurch, he will then be travelling to Auckland in December to have his surgery and last rounds of chemotherapy. Once RJ has surgery he won’t be able to travel back and forth so we will all be travelling up to Auckland to spend Christmas as a family. Thank you all so much to everyone for the love and support you have all shown our family during this tough time. As you can see RJ still manages to show up each day with a smile on his face despite all the obstacles he faces Xx
