Raising funds to help me qualify for the Paralympic Games.
Whangarei, Northland
My name is Troy, and I have aspirations to represent New Zealand at the Paralympic Games in the sport of Boccia.
However to achieve this, I need your help!
Boccia is a precision ball sport similar to petanque and bowls whereby athletes throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball onto court aiming to get close to a target ball. Boccia is a Paralympic sport with no Olympic counterpart and is designed specifically for athletes with a disability affecting locomotor function.
To give you a bit of background I have a full time job, my own house and I also have severe Cerebral Palsy meaning I have physical challenges. This does not stop me living independently and getting out into the community doing the usual things everyone does - although it does mean I use a motorised wheelchair to get about and use assistive technology to do computer work. Even though I earn my own living, like everyone else, I have bills to pay, and this very much limits funds I can save to put towards these competitions.
I also am not eligible for any financial support from Paralympic NZ until I show promise that I'm an athlete worth investing in.
To qualify for the 2024 Paralympics I need to attend two international competitions.
The two competitions are the World Boccia Challenger in Santiago Chile this June, where I placed 2nd. This was NZ best result in quite some time. Then the Regional Championship in Hong Kong this December.
I am over half way to achieving my goal, help me get there!
