Robert Meek died just before Covid 19 lock down after a 3.5 year battle with cancer. His family need help with funding his funeral.
Canterbury
Robert Meek was initially diagnosed with colon cancer on the 16th of November 2016. He suffered through multiple treatments and operations over a prolonged period, eventually succumbing to the disease on the 22nd of March 2020. Rob's body was cremated just prior to Covid-19 lock down and his family are only now able to organise his funeral.
Rob was a talented artist, designer, administrator and sportsman; a beloved husband, father, friend and team mate; and respected colleague and opponent. He was admired by all who made the effort to know him, yet remained humble and unassuming. Rob was kind and caring, he showed empathy for others right up to the point he died.
Rob was unable to work for long periods of his illness. His place of work and colleagues were very supportive of his situation, but his earning capability was drastically reduced during the 3.5 years that he battled cancer. His wife's ability to work during this time was also greatly hindered by the amount of care and attention Robert needed. On top of this, the health insurance Rob had did not cover the full cost of treatment or drugs, leaving them with a significant amount to pay for themselves.
Rob leaves behind a wife and two daughters. One of which is still at home studying to be a school teacher. The family's current income is dependent on his wife's part-time hairdressing business based in her home salon.
I was a very close friend to Tracey's husband Robert.
Funds will be used to cover the cost of Rob's funeral. Any leftover funds will be used by the family to cover debts accrued during Rob's illness.
Thank you 30 October 2020
Thank you to everyone who donated to Rob's memorial. It was a good event and very well attended, despite being so close to the end of lockdown. The funds raised managed to both cover the costs of the memorial and covered associated legal fees. Both the family and I are very grateful.
