On 3rd October 2023 Ange ( nee Cammell) and Matt Ludemann’s beautiful wee 4 year old Frenchie Romeo was spooked by another dog which startled him and caused discs L2-4 to shatter. Unfortunately he deteriorated within 24 hours and was rushed up to VSA Christchurch for emergency back surgery which resulted in full paralysis in his lower back and hind legs. He was diagnosed with IVDD ( intervertebral disc disease) and only given a small chance of ever regaining deep pain sensation and walking again. To say the last few months has been really tough on them is an understatement. Romeo requires 24/7 care and still needs help expressing his bladder and bowels. Ange is often away from home for work and Matt works full time so there is a lot of juggling to make sure Romeo is cared for on a daily basis. They are doing whatever it takes to give Romeo the best chance of walking again by consistently keeping up with weekly hydrotherapy, acupuncture, physiotherapy, massage, laser, chiropractic and kinesiology sessions in the hopes the DPS comes back. They are confident it will it’s just a matter of when… Recently they have invested in custom fitted DorsiFlex Assisted Braced booties to help lift his toes while he’s assisted in his sling to walk, and in the future they may have to look at custom made wheels.
