I've purchased some 3D files for making miniature gaming tiles. But 3d Printing services are horendously expensive
Wellington
Earlier this year, I started considering purchasing 3d Miniatures from Overseas, however the shipping and potential customs charges makes it that much less economical.
I found a Kickstarter for print your own 3d terrain tiles. And after doing a quick search on 3d Printing services in Wellington, I Figured out that it was a better price than purchasing them from overseas and paying shipping and potential custom fees.
The problem is, when doing a search for 3d Printing, you can find the costs for various sizes etc, but they don't advise on the "set up cost" or various other fees as part of the purchase.
So after finally having the .stl files in my hands for the 1st release, the cost of the pieces are now possibly more than purchasing online (at least for a small order)
With this in mind, and further researching, I've found that I can purchase a 3d Printer & then print my own. Although it might take some time to break even and start saving money, I've found there are so many more things I can potentially create & print.
At this point, I look to the goodness of other Kiwi's to help out, by creating a Give-A-Little page.
This page is set to expire on my birthday, I hope to purchase a decent 3d printer, obviously the more I get, the better the printer.
