Ruakaka has received consent from council to build a skatepark! We need your help to make it happen!
Nationwide
There has been an ongoing effort from locals to get a Skatepark for Ruakaka in the past 10 or more years. The problem being we need support and consent from council.
The WDC have accepted our design- which you can see pictures are attached - we will add updated pictures of site and progress via the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RuakakaSkatePark (huge thanks to Adam Welford from Maxar Architecture for the designs), they have supported our applications by funding acoustic report and resource consent! (THANK YOU WDC!!!)
We have also had support from : Richardson Stevens Engineers who did all the structural calculations for us at a great rate. Also local business Abernathy Scrap and Demolition have set up an account where you can donate your scrap to them and use SKATEPARK as account reference and they will donate all proceeds back to us for the Skate Park!!!
Past support and fundraising has been done by local youth linked with the Bream Bay Community Support Trust, and the Ruakaka Recreation Centre.
We now have a small motivated group of locals taking on the completion of the 'vision'- including members of the Ruakaka Recreation Centre, Marsden Lions, Bream Bay Coatings, Atlas Concrete, Maxar Architecture, Bream Bay Community Support Trust, Bream Bay Community Support Network, Ruakaka Cable Wake, and Bream Bay College. Also local business Abernathy Scrap and Demolition have opened an account so that anyone can donate their scrap etc to them and put any profits into the Skatepark account!
The area that is going to be used is currently overgrown sand/earth hills beside Ruakaka Sports feilds on Peter Snell Road, past the current playground and car park. (Keep an eye out for the yellow sign that will be erected in front of the specific area)
The costings have been worked out at $55,000. At this time WDC are unable to provide more funding - however they may be able to sometime in the future (goal is to provide drinking fountain and extend/develop this area in the future as a 'recreation/skate/scooter/basketball' area for locals to enjoy).
Instead of waiting for funding to be made available we are going to link with as many locals and businesses and 'ex-locals' and ANYONE who agrees this would be a great resource for our community and for the future of Ruakaka/Bream Bay, and try and get the funds ourselves.
We would appreciate any donation - big or small to help us achieve this great facility! We are also doing a local sponsorship option where people can 'buy' a square metre of concrete for $200, their support will be noted on the Facebook page, and we'd love any businesses who can support us with sponsorship more than $200 and they will be recognised on Facebook, in the local papers, and also in the new Recreation Centre Buildings on a 'sponsors' wall in the future!
Please share our cause with your friends and those you think may be keen to support this awesome and exciting facility for Ruakaka/ Bream Bay!
Thank you for your time and interest.
Gina D'Ath, Marc Sands, Adam Welford, Andreas Thirling and Craig Nisbet
