Sean is 32 years young and a bloody awesome guy!

You may have seen Sean around Waipukurau with his dad Perry, who is very well known in the running community here.

Unfortunately, life isn't the easiest for Sean as he was born with a very rare Syndrome - Partial Trisomy 13 (Pataus Syndrome). This means there is an extra half chromosome on the 13th. The life expectancy for this condition is unknown as it is so rare, but usually the survival age does not go past 1 year. So as you can see, Sean is a fighter! 💪🏻 Perry currently knows of only one other person in the world of the same age, with the same syndrome.

In the last year things have got even harder for Sean, as his health and capabilities have deteriorated quite fast. At the start of 2024, Sean was hospitalised for 4 months.

Only 8 months ago, Sean could walk around, talk a little bit and feed himself however now he needs to be assisted with eating, cannot talk and relies on a wheelchair to get around. Due to his condition, he now resides at Mt Herbert House, in Waipukurau, where him (and his mum and dad) keep the staff on their toes and the spirits high! 😁
