Rūnanga - United We Stand - save a True Icon of New Zealand's Heritage

    The Hall is now looking stunning with pretty-much all the exterior works complete. A photo taken recently - featuring RMHT Committee Member, Rick Barker - shows how it looks. For most people there is still something "odd" about it - and that is the absence of the large arch-shaped windows. There has been a skilled piece of heritage restoration required for these, but the third of the 3 is now nearing completion, and they will soon go into the front wall to complete the rebirth. We are now moving to scoping out how to bring the Hall back into use in stages that will fit with our fundraising efforts to support the interior fit-out.

  • The iconic messaging on the portico of the Hall has been reborn!

    Trust member and local artist Les Holmes has completed the reinstatement of the Hall's signwriting. This has given a huge boost to the project and the town!

  • It's happening - the iconic messaging is being reborn - United We Stand!

    The Trust has advanced an early rebirth of the Hall's emblematic signage, given the scaffolding that is in place from repainting work. Although much specialist joinery and veranda work remains to be financed, the whole town has been boosted by the sight of local artist and Trust member Les Holmes beginning to bring back the Hall's proud adornment - "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" and "World's Wealth for World's Workers".     On the building front, the recladding of the facia is continuing apace. We hope to have repainted the exterior and begun work on reapplying the signwriting of iconic mottos in the next 2-3 months.

    The fundraising drive has started, and we've consulted our Project Managers who have recommended a target of $250,000 to ensure the highest restoration standards are met and allow for recent rises in the cost of materials.
