I am raising money for Jodie, who has Ewing's Sarcoma, by doing the Queenstown International Half Marathon in November.
Otago
I'm Margaret Young. A wife, mother, grandmother and slightly crazy at times. On Noverber 19th, I'm the Queenstown Internation Half Marathon (21kms).
This is where I need your help. My goal is not only the run, but also to raise $1000 for a very worthy cause.
This is my beautiful daughter (in law). Jodie has been battling Ewing's Sarcoma for over a year now. She's endured major surgery and ongoing chemo which has at times literally sapped her of all she has.
Don't feel sad or sorry for her at all. This girls' a fighter!! Put her in a ring with David Tua or Joseph Parker and watch out!!!
When we reach this goal I will also, as a source of appreciation and thankfulness for your love, kindness and support, have a dip in Lake Wakatipu (yes, freezing cold).
Ewing's Sarcoma is a bone cancer. This cancer is most common in children and adolescents, making up only 1% of all children's cancers. There are only 1.7 cases in every one million children.
There is no known cause for Ewing's Sarcoma. All that is known is that it is not genetic, but rather a change in chromosome 22 after birth. There are also no known lifestyle, dietary or behavioral habits that can prevent this.
Treatment is chemotherapy, radiation and surgery (to remove the tumor and eventually the bone, which is often replaced by new, healthy bone).
So come on!!!! A little really does go a long way!!!
