Raising money towards funding a room for mothers of still born babies by running in memory of our beautiful friend, Tai Dixon.
Canterbury
On 11th May 2019, I ran the St Clair's half marathon with my good friend, Tai Dixon. She was running it for the third time and kept me going right to the end, with her PB of 2 hours 12 minutes.
Tragically, 3 weeks later on 2nd June, she was killed in a car crash on her way to work as a midwife at Christchurch Maternity Unit. She has left behind her husband Scott and 2 young daughters, Iona and Lucia, as well as her wider family, in NZ and the UK, and many many friends.
As the devestation of this event has unfolded, the wave of love from all around the world has been truly incredible. She is such a loved person, having touched so many lives with her fun loving, caring, determined and passionate character.
I, along with a few other friends including Liz, Shona, Lexi and Becky, have decided to turn that love into running in her memory and so will be completing at the Dunedin Marathon on 1st September- either running the whole thing, a half marathon or 10K. For our sponsorship money, we are raising funds to have a Tai Dixon Memorial Room at Christchurch Maternity Unit for to support mothers who have had a still born baby. Tai was passionate about the care of grieving mothers, and their families, and therefore we will raise money to further the care that they receive at this most difficult time.
I am running a marathon to raise money in memory of my friend. The account the money is going to is her husband and we are going to use it to fund a memorial room for mothers and their families with still born babies.
It will go to support bereaved families by going towards funding a Tai Dixon Memorial Room for mothers of still born babies. If we exceed our target we would like to create rooms like this in other hospitals.
