A 24-hour race to raise funds for the HB Mental Health Fund for the Hawke’s Bay Foundation
Hawke's Bay
My name is Steve, I have decided to take on the ultimate test of endurance - a 24-hour race to raise funds for the Hawke’s Bay Foundation, HB Mental Health Fund.
February 14 2023 is a date etched in Hawke's Bay's history as one of the region's darkest days. In Napier, Cyclone Gabrielle caused widespread damage and flooding and resulted in a period of extreme isolation and vulnerability.
The widespread devastation and heartache caused by Cyclone Gabrielle has left the region of Hawke’s Bay, its communities and residents completely ravaged, with many still struggling to rebuild.
Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community. Mental health is a basic human right. And it is crucial to personal, community and socio-economic development.
The race starts at 9.00AM Sat. 23 Sep 2023 and finishes 9.00AM Sun. 24 Sep 2023. I've had just over 3 months specific training for this race and a couple of little injuries during this time have only added to the immense challenge at hand.
I'll be regularly posting updates every 2 - 3 hours how I progress on the day via Instagram and Facebook and will have a live tracker link too.
My fundraising goal is $5,000 and I myself shall be donating $1 for each kilometer I complete.
My target is to run 161km/100miles.
I have chosen this charity through recommendations of Hawkes Bay residents
Funds will be donated to the Hawke’s Bay Foundation.
