Swanson Rd Vets worked on Sabre for nearly three hours! They believe that the ligament damage occurred over 6 months ago, and had Sabre received more immediate attention the arthritis damage would not have been as extensive as it is. He needs to lose at least 7kgs (and keep it off) for the joint to be healthy, this will also help ease the arthritic pain. Sabre has been microchipped and given booster shots while under anaesthetic. The next few weeks will be challenging as he is to be confined to a small room or garage. 100% crate rest is not recommended as he will need to be able to stretch his leg out to prevent it from going stiff. He is not to weight bear excessively in the two weeks post op, so may need help standing up due to his portly size. This can be done by wrapping a towel around his waist/hips and lifting him upwards. Sabre needs to head back to the vet in two weeks to have his stitches looked at. Bria has requested that they send him home with a cone of shame just in case he chews at the stitches (hopefully she'll share this image with us soon) Thank you Bria for collecting Sabre from surgery today and for providing us with an extensive update, and to Linn for taking him in as of this evening for convalescence care.
Sabre has a 15:15 with Gary Duggal at Swanson vets today. Wish him luck!
