  • SAMOA KIDZ LIBRARIES TO BE ACCESSIBLE 24/7

      8 February 2020

The Samoa Kidz Library Appeal is adopting the Book Stop concept.

Instead of locking up books, Samoa children will be encouraged to take a book, read a book, swap a book or donate a book.

Where old glass fridges are given another 15 years of usefulness instead of just throwing it to the dumpster; thus protecting the environment...

ASA Foundation and partners are currently fundraising to establish 3 mini libraries In Memory of the Children who died of the 2019 measles epidemic.

They say reading opens doors. We may have lost many precious lives to the measles epidemic in Samoa but together we can help those who survived, and give a generation a better future through books.

Please donate to the SAMOA KIDZ LIBRARY APPEAL Givealittle page by clicking on the link below: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/samoa-kidz-libraries

  • FA’ATELE TELE (THANK YOU) FOR HELPING SAMOA

      16 January 2020
    Main image

The grateful smile on the face of this father made our day when he dropped in to the Mental Health Service with his son who had just been discharged from the hospital to pick up one of the green pack of goods donated by people to ASA Foundation to deliver to Samoa.

This would not have been possible without the kindness of so many people across New Zealand and from Sydney Australia.

ASA Foundation and partners have been on the ground in Samoa for 9 weeks now providing financial assistance, coffins and aid supplies to families who lost a loved one and many affected by the measles epidemic.

ASA Foundation is grateful to companies, churches, organisations and individuals who have partnered with us to ensure there is a well coordinated operation to reach the people in need as soon as resources are available.

The MS19 appeal is direct from donors to the people affected... right now, not a week or a month later. We welcome anyone who wants to partner with ASA Foundation like the following fundraisers:

    1. Action For Samoa (Wellington)

    2. USA For Samoa (Ruurd, Bianca, Nyles, RJ & Kilo Brown)

We acknowledge the significant humanitarian and medical assistance offered by the international community.

  • R.I.P. BABY DUNAMIS KERUPI OF SAPAPALII, SAVAII

      4 January 2020
    Main image

Tofilau Esther Tofilau and Kunileti Leafa Lautogo of ASA Foundation presenting your kind assistance this morning to Fogafata Kerupi Luki, mother of baby Dunamis Ischus Kratos Kerupi at his grave at Sapapalii, Savaii. Missing in photo is Suliveta Kerupi the father.

2020 is going to be an exciting year for ASA Foundation and we invite you to be involved. The word ASA means ‘paving the way’ in Samoan. It is our commitment to ‘pave the way’ in enhancing lives. “Asa’asa i mea lelei,” (Rev. Elder Senara Tautiaga)

ASA Foundation and partners have been on the ground in Samoa for 7 weeks providing financial assistance, coffins and aid supplies to families who lost a loved one to measles.

ASA Foundation is committed to remain in Samoa up to the end of February supporting the State of Recovery work. This includes the continuation of its partnership with Frankie's Supermarket in assisting the Mental Health & Psychosocial Support service at Motootua Hospital with the measles mental health impact.

Between the 9th - 12th January, ASA Foundation will have its first team of Flying Volunteers on the ground, tasked with the distribution of close to 50 pallets of donated aid supply in partnership with the Government, the Ministry of Health and local organisations.

Another team is scheduled for the 27th February to 1st March. ASA Foundation Flying Volunteers will get the opportunity to meet the families that we’ve been assisting, also frontline health staffs and volunteers in Samoa.

Flying Volunteers organise and pay for their own travel and accommodation while ASA Foundation will look after transport and meals during the 4 days volunteer work in Samoa. Volunteers can travel early then join in the 4 days work, while others may want to be there for the 4 days then stay on for a few more days to visit families.

For more information about the ASA Foundation Flying Volunteers, contact Tofilau Esther Tofilau on (+6421) 0292-6670 or email esthertofilau007@gmail.com if you wish to join the ASA Foundation Flying Volunteers.

  • HELPING OTHERS TO HELP THEMSELVES

Remember Tuivale Luamanuvae and Fa’aoso Tuivale of Laulii? The young couple who lost their three babies to measles; their two-year-old son Sale and their one-year-old twins, sister Tamara and brother Itila?

On behalf of Tuivale and Fa’aoso pictured here the first day ASA Foundation visited them, same day they were burying their third child, we thank you all for your kind donations that supported them.

ASA Foundation continues to be in touch with Tuivale and Fa’aoso as they rebuild their lives. But instead of waiting for more handouts, Tuivale and Fa’aoso are back working their vegetable garden and selling it at the Fugalei Market.

These are the photos that Tuivale sent me earlier this week of their produce and the vegetable stall at the market. I’m so proud of Tuivale and Fa’aoso. Please look out for their stall at Fugalei Market when buying veges.

Next week I’ll be joining ASA Foundation board members Tuala Tagaloa Tusani and Tofilau Esther Tofilau in Samoa and the first team of ASA Flying Volunteers as part of the MEASLES SAMOA FUND APPEAL and relief work.
