Sam's health journey
Auckland
In August this year, Sam called me from the side of the road with slurred speech saying he doesn't feel right. I immediately called him an ambulance and this is where our journey with the public health system began.
Since Sam's first hospital admission in August, he has had 4 ambulances and hospital stays.
His symptoms are very concerning and keep progressing, to name a few, he suffers from numbness, weakness and tingling in both hands and legs, chronic fatigue, and most lately, confusion and deleria (he couldn't remember what year is is). These episodes will last for days and weeks with a couple of "good" days inbetween. He had a 3 hour MRI which showed lesions on the brain, but other than that we have not had any help or explanation and the public neurologists are so busy that we just feel like a number. Time is of the essence
We are getting nowhere with the public health system. Sam needs specialist care from a private neurologist. These appointments are $700 for the initial assessment, and $400 for appointments thereafter.
Sam has been signed off work for at least 3 months, and I envisage it will be longer, I have also had to take a lot of time off work, so we are having to turn to our family and friends during this scary time, to help get Sam the medical attention he needs, and also help us stay afloat with the bills.
Sam is very reluctant for me to start this page, but I've said that asking for help is ok!!
I just want Sam his bright, happy, annoyingly sarcastic self again
