I need your help to achieve my dream of competing at the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Champs in Oklahoma in September 2016.

Auckland

I have made selection for the NZ Age Group Team who will compete in Oklahoma, USA from September 24-25, 2016 at the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships. Competing at a world champs is an amazing experience. It is an opportunity to compete to be titled as a world champ in your age category.

I was selected for the team after competing in my first half iron man in January. It was about 18 months ago that I started to compete in triathlons. This sport was not really a reality for me while I was studying at university and establishing my career as due to the significant financial and time commitments this sport requires however as soon as I started, I was hooked. I have always been a runner and a swimmer, and I've always enjoyed cycling. Over the past few years I have competed in half marathons, marathons, ultra marathons, trail running, adventure running and more! This is the stuff that gets me out of bed in the morning! BUT, it is with triathlon that I have found my true passion. I enjoy the balancing of the training across the three disciplines. I enjoy the people who love this sport.

I was selected for the world champs based on my performance in the Tauranga Half Iron Man. I rode on a bike I purchased of TradeMe for $200, and battled strong winds. To say that I have started from humble beginnings is an understatement. I don't have all the right gear, but I certainly have the determination and the dedication that is key to doing well in this sport. I am so excited about what I can achieve with the right equipment and the backing of the right people.

However... age group racing is entirely self-funded and I need your help to make this dream a reality. Competing at the world champs involves a significant financial commitment for the athlete - there is the travel, accommodation, uniform, entry fee, racing license, equipment, clothing, shoes, nutrition, physio etc etc etc, and for me, I need to get my hands on a new bike pronto as my commuter bike is not going to cut the mustard.

I know I will get there, but your support will make the journey so much easier - I will be able to concentrate on my training instead of finding ways to fund it. However, I still intend to organise fundraising events which I will let you know more about in due course.

I am looking for whatever support you or your business might be able to offer. No offer of support or donation is too small or too obscure.

Most of all I thank you for visiting my page and believing in me! I will keep you all updated on my progress.
