Sasha's Rehabilitation from Death Row
Christchurch, Canterbury
Sasha unfortunately has not had a great start to life and is only 6mths old.
Sasha was left by her owner tied to a fence at the breeders’ home on Wednesday 27 July.
Breeder tried rehoming her on Saturday 30 July, returned to breeder Sunday 31 July.
I took her into my care on 1 August to try and help out the breeder (mum with young children) and Sasha being “aggressive”. Sasha was listed for euthanasia by the breeder due to nipping a child.
She was shy but not aggressive towards me at all, so I gave her a wash as she was soaked in urine, a feed and then play time and treats before she went to bed.
She has reportedly bitten a dog, cat and male adult – circumstances surrounding these events are not known. She has nipped at a child – circumstances surrounding this unknown but likely to be related to being un-educated.
I removed Sasha from death row after her behavioural assessment on 3 August 2022.
Behaviourist – Mark Gall (Bark Busters) 22+ years’ experience.
Assessment date – 3 August 2022
• Un-socialized
• Un-educated (no training to date)
• Hyper-active
• Fearful of new people and experiences
• Not aggressive
Index funding: vet costs (vaccinations, microchip, de-sexing) - safe and secure environment for slow integration to new environments +/- council fees
Leftover funding: will be donated to a local rescue to support their ongoing efforts and costs
Sasha and Kids 9 August 2022
We have been making really good progress with Sasha and my six year old boy, he is now feeding her treats freely and she is doing really well.
