Helping East Coast music venues recover from Cyclone Gabrielle
Nationwide
Over the last few weeks, the utter destruction affecting many in our communities has become apparent.
For venues in the worst affected locations on the East Coast, our hearts go out to you. Smash Palace and Dome Bar in Gisborne. The Cabana, Paisley Stage, Common Room and Spaceship have all been devastated by Cyclone Gabrielle.
This page has been set up by Save Our Venues to support these venues who've been impacted.
“A collective response to support our music venue whānau is as important as ever,” says Taylor MacGregor from Save Our Venues. “We see this as the start of a long-running campaign to support venues in the hardest-hit regions as they struggle to perform their crucial role in their communities in the coming weeks and months”.
Continues MacGregor, “This period will be critical to venues’ resilience and their ability to make their important contribution to people in the region - as community hubs and providers of mental well-being to those who perform and attend live music.”
All proceeds from the East Coast Rocks The Most fundraiser (Tāmaki Makaurau’s Whammy Bar March 10 & 11) will be donated to this Givealittle page. We encourage other fundraising shows to donate to this page for distribution in the region.
Proceeds will be shared with impacted East Coast music venues, with 20% of funds raised being donated to MusicHelps to support their vitally important music support services assisting music people experiencing hardship and illness, including a counselling service.
20% of funds will be donated to MusicHelps. The remaining 80% will be evenly shared between Smash Palace, Dome Bar, The Cabana, Paisley Stage, Common Room and Spaceship.
East Coast and Hawke's Bay - we haven't forgotten you 6 April 2023
Thanks to everyone who's donated to this page, put on a fundraiser for hard-hit music venues, or attended one of those gigs - your contributions are extremely meaningful and will be distributed soon.
Let's give this one last push over the next week and see where we end up by April 14. We know there's plenty more generosity out there - and it will be gratefully received by impacted venues and the folks at MusicHelps.
