WE NEED YOUR HELP:

The Papatoetoe Boxing Club is an iconic establishment in the South Auckland community, providing a safe haven for those with a desire to pursue boxing.

This has been tirelessly maintained and operated by Grant and Mary Arkell for the majority of its existence & was founded with the late Manny Santos.

For over 30 years, the doors have remained open and in that time we have seen some phenomenal athletes compete in all levels of boxing within New Zealand.

The passion that Grant and Mary have for not only boxing but South Auckland has been evident through their tireless efforts to provide a platform that facilitates and shares the love of boxing. Grant purposely keeps the prices down ($30/month youth & $60/month adults) to allow individuals in South Auckland a way to affordably learn and train in a safe environment. This is fuelled by the fact that for Grant - it is about the passion and love for boxing and the impact it can have on your well -being and other areas of life. It is more than just a sports club, It is a community.

In saying that, there are still commitment that need to be made financially to provide this service which is the reasoning behind this givealittle page. Due to the circumstances surrounding Covid-19, we were closed for 3 months and thus removing  the income flow that contributed to covering operational cost. As a non-profit organisation, all memberships fees/funding is directed to covering operational cost only. No wages are taken as Grant and Mary have always volunteered their time, effort, knowledge and support for over 30 years.

To be transparent with you all, the club has not survived on memberships alone. We have over the years had sponsors, community grants, subsidies and some great partnerships. But the reality is, that with Covid-19 this has understandably added pressure to some of these relationships and subsequently impacted our ability to continue to operate. Please find below a break-down of the financial needs and time frames that are evident and we are working towards.

FACILITY FUNDS

Urgent:

$4250 in monthly rent for affected months March, April, May

(Total:$12,750 by June 10th)

Next Payment:

$4250 in monthly rent paid quarterly for June, July, August

(Total:$12,750 by September 10th)

Total: $25,500

We understand that this is big figure and Covid-19 has impacted all of us but we firmly believe that a little will go a long way. As a community I am positive that we can come together to not only support Grant and Mary but to continue to foster the love of boxing in South Auckland.

So we are asking for your help in ensuring that the legacy of Papatoetoe Boxing Club continues to thrive and therefore impact families and individuals to come.  Without this financial support, Papatoetoe Boxing Club will be forced to close its doors indefinitely.

Anyone who knows Grant and Mary Arkell are well aware that they are never ones to ask for handouts or help but are always the first to listen, help and provide at any cost. They go the extra mile to ensure that the athletes only focus from the moment they step foot into the club is their own progression and training. There are countless examples of their selflessness and commitment to the community and now it is time to do OUR part.

So, what does this look like? Is it $1, $10, $1000? - Yes, all of it counts.
