Nelson
Please support the campaign to stop development of 550 or more houses in Kaka Valley, within the Maitai Valley.
The Maitai is a unique area in Nelson; a treasured, peaceful valley where generations of Nelsonians have swum in the river, picnicked, played with their children, cycled, walked their dogs and enjoyed many other activities. It's one all Nelsonians have the freedom to access, a special spot that makes Nelson a great place to live!
The proposed development is directly behind Dennes Hole and opposite Sunday Hole.
This will result in an estimated 2000 car trips per day along Maitai and Nile streets, more light pollution, urban run-off INTO THE RIVER and the loss of the rural nature of the valley.
In 2006 Nelsonians strongly opposed development in the Maitai area.
In 2019 Nelsonians said they support building up, not building out.
Nelson residents have strongly opposed a proposed large-scale residential development in Nelson’s Maitai Valley, in submissions now posted on the city council website.
Ninety-one percent of the public submissions to Nelson City Council oppose .
The developer’s proposal and public submissions will be considered by Resource Management Act commissioners, who will then make a recommendation to NCC on whether or not to allow the subdivision to proceed.
716 individuals and groups made submissions, with just five percent supporting it. The remainder were neutral or requested amendments to the proposed development.
