Here's Star with his lovely new family members - turns out he ADORES children. He also lives with another dog, cat and couple of bunnies. All getting along great. Rescues make lovely family members because they know they've been saved and are forever loyal - it's all about finding the right match and fit so everyone is happy.

Star has been with his new family now for 2 weeks and they are the most special and loving family. They have 3 children (Star adores them all and the attention they give him), a fully fenced back yard and take Star and his new sister a 3y.o blue heeler to the beach on the daily.

Star now has silky thick fur and bright eyes, and when he's at the beach his tail is high and wagging!! He lives local so I can still visit for walks which is very special for us both to maintain this connection. Star knows he is incredibly loved and safe.

Thank you to everyone who made this outcome possible - his new family, those who helped fostering, Givealittle funders, and his team of fans who visited him and made him realize he had a lot of friends who would never let him down.

Well done to his special team of supporters - thank you all xxxxx ❤️

  • Broken hearted

Dear lovely fan club of Gale and Star,

It is with a very heavy heart that I have to inform you that Gale's lump ended up being cancer & surgery was the start of a short & complex battle that she didn't survive.

Gale's primary vet has provided a summary of what happened below:

Vet: "The report from the lab identified the lump as a type of tumour called a mast cell tumour. This is a type of cancer and we discussed the risk of possible regrowth of the lump or future metastasis (spread around the body). Gale had some heavy bleeding from the surgical site post operatively which was managed with pressure dressings and regular checks. Unfortunately after 1 week, the wound started to breakdown and was reclosed at another vet clinic.

Given the poor prognosis and deterioration of the surgical site the decision was made to put Gale to sleep. Gale was a beautiful girl and we all did our best to help her during her journey and made sure that she wasn’t in pain or suffering. We are all very sad about the sad outcome but really tried our best to achieve a good outcome for her."

A very unexpected ending when we thought Gale was out of the worst of it. She didn't suffer and knew what love was being part of my family. If you would like the full report, and breakdown of funds, I will be more than happy to share if you email: star.gale.rescue@gmail.com

Star is in a new foster home and very happy - he is still in search of a forever home but for now we are taking a break to grieve.

Neglected dogs STAR and GALE (previously Scarface and Game) are both now in adoption processes and soon to be having a trial in new potential homes.

Thank you so much to those who have offered to foster or showed interest in adoption, we will keep you on file if the current situations don’t work out.

Mum and son, Gale and Star (aged 9 and 8), were both subjected to cruel conditions and suffering their whole lives. Both came with physical and psychological challenges and they needed the right people to prioritise them.

    - Please consider donating to Gale and Star’s fund as we are short on the money for Gale’s surgery - Save - Givealittle All money will go towards making sure they always have everything they need. A breakdown of expenses and copies of receipts can be provided to donors who email star.gale.recue@gmail.com

    - Please consider fostering or adopting other beautiful dogs who are in need – check your local pound, SPCA, Facebook pages, shelters, and see Chained Dog Awareness listings on TradeMe: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/search?member_listing=1990923

I took Gale and Star in short-term to get them out of horrible conditions and treat their urgent medical needs. Generous people donated their time and money to give these dogs a chance to find a new life. At first, while people were concerned, unfortunately nobody was willing to take these dogs in. However, after an urgent notice on Facebook people have opened their hearts & homes to these pups ❤️

  • Doing really well!!

Star and Gale are loving their life in foster care. Their personalities are blooming. Gale loves hugs and her bone to chew on with some peanut butter inside. Star loves his hugs, exploring and sunbathing. Both are wonderful dogs enjoying quality food, getting their medication and feeling more secure and knowing only good things are coming their way. They love their new beds, collars and snuggly blankets. Their conjunctivitis has gone, pain meds kicking in for Gale and Star's skin condition is clearing up. They enjoy new visitors and are wonderful guard dogs. Happy hounds who want to say 'thank you' for your donations as they are getting only the best quality care now and they are getting more confident and happy every day ❤️
