Preserve a core pillar of Tāmaki Makaurau’s music community.
Auckland CBD, Auckland
For eleven years, Neck of the Woods has been a core pillar of Karangahape Road’s creative communities. They have provided a nurturing ground for countless musicians, bands, DJs, performers and collectives - always leading with integrity, manaakitanga and a genuine love for the communities they provide for.
Like a lot of music venues, Neck of the Woods has been struggling since Covid and this year has just gotten harder. Sold out shows don’t always mean a club is doing well, as they survive mostly on bar sales. In the midst of a cost of living crisis, and with a lack of funding for music venues, this business model is not working.
When it was announced that Neck of the Woods would be closing their doors next week, there was a massive outpouring of love and disbelief. Their space and sound system are unmatched, but more than anything it is the people who work there. The team at Neck of the Woods are some of the most kind, hard-working, funny, loving, nurturing people we have ever had the pleasure of working with. They have cultivated a space that bridges communities in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa and to the world.
We can’t let Neck of the Woods close. After speaking directly to the team, we’ve learned that it would take $150k to keep the doors open. If everyone who's shown their support over the last few days gives just $25, we could save this precious space.
We are a group of artists & promoters who have a long standing working relationship with Neck of the Woods.
While the ultimate goal remains raising the full $150k to remain open, if the target is not reached prior to next week's scheduled closure, all funds raised will be utilized as a wind-down fund. These funds will be broadly allocated toward final operational obligations, outstanding venue expenses, and wrapping up remaining contractor and staffing commitments incurred during this final trading period.
$150k Goal Reached, Thank you ❤️ 25 June 2026
Thank you. This has been a hugely inspiring movement to be part of. Our community has rallied around this space and contributed in ways we could never have imagined. From the merch drops, auctions, tattoos and albums, to all those who have supported independently. You have all shown how wide and supportive our community is.
We’ve reached our goal but we’re not quite out of the woods yet. The money that has been raised will be enough to save Neck of the Woods from closure. From this point onwards, all new donations will help to bring Neck of the Woods back better than ever.
The Givealittle closes on Saturday, so keep spreading it far and wide. If you have the means, anything helps! There are fundraising events in the coming days and weeks, which you can find on the next slide. These are crucial to ensure a smooth reopening for Neck of the Woods.
Getting to this point would not have happened without the very visible support shown by all of you. This has been a community effort, and will continue to be a community effort. We want your ideas on how we can reimagine a more sustainable future for Neck of the Woods. You can find a Google form in our bio so you can submit your ideas and please keep your eyes out for an invite to a hui in the next couple of weeks.
